Financial Aid Steps

The Division of Graduate Studies maintains a Financial Support Office, an excellent resource for beginning your financial aid search. The following steps will also help in the process.

Step 1
Apply for Admission to the University

You do not have to wait to be admitted to the university to apply for financial aid. However, in order for you to be offered financial aid, you must be admitted to the university and enrolled in a degree-seeking program of study. Apply online at www.asu.edu/gradapp.

Step 2
File your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

For most types of financial aid, you will need to complete the FAFSA.The FAFSA may be filed beginning January 1 of each year. There is no charge for submitting the FAFSA. ASU’s FAFSA priority filing date is March 1st of every year. Eligible students who apply by this date have a greater chance of receiving institutional grants, Federal Work-Study and the Federal Perkins Loan for the academic school year.

ASU Determines your Financial Need

Financial need is determined by subtracting your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from your estimated Cost of Attendance (COA). The resulting figure determines your maximum need-based award eligibility for the academic year. Need-based awards include grants, scholarships, Federal Work Study, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Subsidized Loans and outside resources. Non-need-based aid includes Federal Stafford Unsubsidized Loans and Alternative Loans.

BORROW RESPONSIBLY

Arizona Higher Education Loan Authority is dedicated to helping students achieve their educational goals while teaching them to keep their debt to a minimum. They offer several loan options to meet each student’s need.
