Scholarships
ASU’s scholarships recognize and reward distinguished academic performance. Numerous scholarships are available to ASU students including merit-based, campus-based, departmental and private donor scholarships. Need-based scholarships require completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA. Many ASU scholarships require student action by specified deadlines. While deadlines vary, most occur between December and March for the academic year. Eligibility and application processes vary by scholarship type.
Important Details
Scholarships awarded through this application process are not automatically renewable. The award is not an entitlement. An updated application must be submitted each year for consideration.
Eligibility
- Undergraduate student
- Arizona resident (non-resident students may be selected for private donor scholarships)
- Admitted to a degree program
- Some private donors using this applicant pool require a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Full-time enrollment
- If you are awarded a general scholarship and do not maintain full-time enrollment, your scholarship may be cancelled.
CTEL Scholarships
The College of Teacher Education and Leadership welcomes ASU CTEL students to apply for the scholarships listed below. Many CTEL scholarships require student action by specified deadlines. While deadlines vary, most occur between December and March for the academic year. Please review the eligibility requirements listed below each scholarship. Submit applications and any other required documents to the College of Teacher Education and Leadership Advising Services front desk. We are located on the second floor of the Faculty Administration Building (FAB) in room S210.

Althea Rautenberg Smith Endowed Scholarship
- For individuals who will become teachers
- Must demonstrate financial need
- First preference for students from the SW Valley including Agua Fria, Buckeye, and Tolleson High Schools
- Must submit an essay on what a teaching career means to you
- Preference given to individuals in the inspire.teach program

Alpha Delta Kappa Fidelis Theta Chapter
- Must be a junior or senior
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Renewable if criteria is maintained
- Field of study in Elementary, Secondary, or Special Education
- Cummulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Arizona Resident

The main mission of the ALPHA partnership is to work with Pre K-12, public, and private sector partners too deliberately and strategically engage in efforts to enhance academic performance of Arizona's students.

APS scholarship
Scholarship Award: scholarships up to $2000 each (divided equally over two semesters). Students must complete two applications - the APS/ASU Scholarship application and the General Scholarship application.
Criteria:
- Field of study – Business - marketing, accounting, finance, management IS Management
- Teaching - Elementary, Secondary and Special Education
- Cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0
- Arizona resident
- Financial need
Deadline: April 30, 2008 Notification of awards will be sent by mid-July.

ASU Teacher Incentive Program (TIP)
- This scholarship requires completing the FAFSA and the TIP application.
- Students may be eligible for the Federal Perkins Loan Program, a low-interest loan awarded through ASU's financial aid office
- Must demonstrate financial need
- After graduating, loan may be canceled for a number of reasons including:
- Employed as a full-time teacher in a designated elementary or secondary school serving students from low-income families
- Employed as a full-time special education teacher
- Employed full-time as a qualified professional provider of early intervention services for the disabled, or employed as a full-time teacher of math, science, foreign language, bilingual education, or in other fields designated as teacher shortage areas.

- Must be an undergraduate student pursuing major in the College of Teacher Education and Leadership

Delta Kappa Gamma - Alpha XI, Sun City
- Must be a junior or senior
- Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Preference given to returning students and those involved in campus activities
- Recipient must attend a chapter meeting

Margaret Chamberlain Coffinger Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship: Margaret Chamberlain Coffinger Memorial Scholarship Summary This Fund was created by Eugene L. Coffinger in memory of his late wife Margaret Chamberlain Coffinger. Margaret graduated from Arizona State Teachers College in 1934 and taught in Arizona for 41 years. The Scholarship supports undergraduate students earning their teaching certificate.
- Class status: All undergraduates, including transfer students except those transferring from another 4 year institution
- Major/Field of interest: All CTEL majors
- Amount of award: $2,500
- Payment distribution: Award students equally over Fall & Spring semesters
- Financial need required: Yes
- Minimum GPA: Strong Academic Record
- Restrictions Students must have attended a school in the Madison Elementary School District or it's succesor district
- Renewable: Yes, must reapply

SRP Bridge to the Classroom Scholarship
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2
- Must be willing to do their student teaching in a high-needs area school, with preference given to schools located within the SRP service area
- Must be a Senior in the College of Teacher Education and Leadership education program, beginning their student teaching semester
- Preference will be given to those of Hispanic heritage, if all other candidate criteria attributes are identical
- Financial need will be a consideration but not a requirement

ASU/MCCCD Teacher Education Alliance (TEALL) Scholarship
This fund was created by the College of Teacher Education and Leadership Dean’s office in support of education students who are participants in the ASU/Maricopa Community College Alliance partnership program. - Class Status: Junior or Senior
- Major: Elementary, Early Childhood Teaching and Leadership, Special Education, Bilingual, English as a Second Language
- Amount of Award: $500
- Payment Distribution: Fall 2007 - Spring 2008
- Financial Need Required: No
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Restrictions: Teacher Education Alliance (TEALL) students only
- Renewable: No
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for this program the applicant must:
- Be an accepted participant in the Teacher Education Alliance program
- Be enrolled in one of Maricopa Community Colleges Alliance Colleges (Glendale Community College, Phoenix College, Estrella Mountain Community College, Mesa Community College, Scottsdale Community College, and Chandler-Gilbert Community College)
- Be pursuing an Associate of Arts in Elementary Education (AAEE) degree and plan on attending one of the ASU campuses
- Possess a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible U.S. permanent resident

The Kay Jarnagin Thompson Endowed Scholarship
- Must be full-time or part-time student and enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours of classes
- Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
- First preference be given to graduates of Peoria H.S., second preference to applicants from other high schools in the Peoria H.S. district
- Must be undergraduate student pursuing an education major with an interest in early childhood education (preschool to third grade)
- Financial need is not a consideration
- Renewable if criteria is maintained

Professional Field Experience
Alpha Scholarship
- Available to Student Teachers in Alpha Districts
Application due by October 1 and March 1 semester prior to Student Teaching
Americorp Award Program
- Up to $2,000 voucher to pay off student loans or pay for advanced course work
- Available to student teachers in Alpha Districts and Title One schools
- Attend workshop and complete application forms (preference given to Special Education and Secondary Math and Science teachers).
Rodel Scholarship
- Student teacher placement in high poverty schools with an exemplary teacher
- Application due by October 1 and March 1 semester prior to Student Teaching
