Teach For America
Beginning this year, ASU is significantly enhancing its already existing partnership with Teach For America. Through a three-pronged approach of recruitment, teacher support and development, and alumni empowerment, Arizona State University and Teach For America are joining forces in their continued effort to address the most pressing educational needs in our region.
A significant piece of this growing partnership is the focus on teacher support and development which is being led by the College of Teacher Education and Leadership at Arizona State University.

Partnership
ASU and TFA are partnering on three specific areas: recruitment (of ASU seniors into TFA), teacher development and support, and alumni empowerment. The partnership on teacher development and support specifically focuses on the unique opportunity to match ASU’s teacher training expertise with the passion of Teach For America corps members. The College of Teacher Education and Leadership (CTEL) is leading the development of this partnership area with the support of the education units across the ASU campuses, who will continue to be involved as the partnership grows.
The Phoenix region Teach For America corps members (~200) will assume teaching responsibilities in urban school districts in fall 2007. Simultaneously, corps members will have the opportunity to enroll in the College of Teacher Education and Leadership at Arizona State University’s Masters and Certification program tailored specifically to their unique teaching experience. Corps members will take classes in the College of Teacher Education and Leadership over the 2 years they spend teaching in Phoenix schools. Once they successfully complete the program, they will have earned a Master’s Degree in one of three areas: Elementary Education, Secondary Education and Special Education.
This partnership is unique because both organizations are working together to tailor programs to the Teach For America corps members. Classes are scheduled at convenient times for the corps members, and are offered throughout the 2-year teaching assignment. Curriculum will focus on best practices derived from current research, innovative teaching strategies, while integrating the Teach For America Corps members’ personal teaching experience.
Both organizations have the ultimate goal of retaining the outstanding recent college graduates of various academic majors in educational careers and maximize the corps members’ ongoing engagement and leadership in education and social reform beyond their two-year teaching assignment.
