Commencement is a special celebration, with tradition and symbolism that date back centuries in the history of higher education. This is the occasion when your degree will be officially conferred upon you. Students, faculty and staff from all colleges and all four ASU campuses participate in University Commencement.

The College of Teacher Education & Leadership Convocation individually recognizes our Doctoral, Master’s and Bachelor's degree graduates in a celebratory ceremony conducted for our graduates, their families and friends. During the Convocation ceremony, graduates' names will be read as they walk across the stage and receive personal congratulations.

Information e-mails about the college’s Convocation ceremony will be sent to students only after they have applied to graduate. The first e-mail will be sent out in late October, the second (containing guest information) will be sent out in early December. (Note: the e-mail address used on the Application to Graduate Form you submitted will be used.)

GRADUATION CHECKLIST

A graduation checklist is available to download or print from the University Ceremonies website.

  • Check your credits:

    • You must have completed all required courses to receive a degree in your major.
    • You can check your credits by requesting a new Degree Audit (DARS) from MyASU.
    • If you are missing any credits, you can discuss your options with the college’s advising office.
  • Application to Graduate Forms:
    • Pick up graduation forms from the Registrar/Registration Services office on your campus (for locations, see "Helpful Links..." section below) or download the forms from the Registrar’s website.
    • RSVP for the University Commencement ceremony on the Application to Graduate.
  • Apply to graduate: submit your completed application to graduate forms and pay graduation fees in person at an ASU Cashier's Office (for locations, see "Helpful Links..." section below). To avoid late fees, apply by the required deadline.
    • Fall 2009 graduates must apply by October 15, 2009.
    • Applying to Graduate IN PERSON - where to file graduation forms:
      • Downtown Phoenix campus students may file at the Cashier’s Office on either the Downtown Phoenix or Tempe campus.
      • Polytechnic campus students must file at the Cashier’s Office on the Polytechnic campus.
      • Tempe campus students must file at the Cashier’s Office on the Tempe campus.
      • West campus students must file at the Cashier’s Office on the West campus.
    • Applying to Graduate ONLINE: For your convenience, you may apply to graduate online via MyASU. Please note that a credit card is required.
  • Confirm your name and address:
    • Confirm that your name and address are current on MyASU.
    • Your diploma will be mailed to your permanent address 8-10 weeks after Convocation, provided all required coursework is complete.
  • Caps and gowns are required to participate in the ASU Commencement and Convocation ceremonies:
    • Order your cap, gown and tassel or hood from the ASU Bookstore.
    • You can purchase the items at the Bookstore on any campus.
    • Or purchase them during the Graduation Fair (see "Dates to Remember" section above). The Bookstore holds a fair on each campus during the spring and fall semesters. Deep discounts and promotions are available.
  • Graduation Announcements: you can purchase ASU announcements through CB Graduation Announcements or create a personalized announcement of your own.
  • Honor Cords: pick up your honor cords from the Registrar/Registration Services office on your campus (for locations, see "Helpful Links..." section below).
  • RSVP for your Graduation ceremonies:
    • Go to MyASU and click on the icon (button) to RSVP for University Commencement, CTEL Convocation and any specialty convocations you wish to attend.
    • West campus students may also RSVP for the Motor Coach service to the University Commencement ceremony through MyASU
    • Special Needs: Be sure to indicate if you or one of your guests has special needs when completing the online RSVP form
