English as a Second Language
Endorsement
A B.A.E. in Elementary Education - English as a Second Language prepares individuals to teach in an elementary E.S.L. environment. E.S.L. teachers:
- Teach content in English
- Teach English to children who speak a variety of languages
- Teach children to value their new culture as well as their own cultural heritage
- Possess a desire to work with children who are acquiring English
Program Features:
- Field experiences in schools with ESL programs
- Bilingual faculty
- Curriculum resource center with a variety of current instructional materials
- Integration of technology in the coursework
Area Needs:
Almost all districts in the Central Arizona area, as in many other areas of the country, are experiencing a tremendous enrollment growth of students who are non-English or limited-English speakers. Many districts indicate a need for endorsed ESL teachers. All districts state a need for minority teachers.
